Greetings!  Fall is Here!

The next meeting of the Canon Co-op is this Sunday, Sept 20, at 4 pm.  It will be held at the home of Paula and Marvin at 625 N. Raynolds.  We will be touring their garden and hearing about the lessons they learned this growing season.  Judy will also show us highlights of the Co-op website.  And if there are any artists out there, we need your help painting faces on some pumpkins & squash.  The potluck theme is “Garden Harvest.”

The booth at the Farmer’s Market is still going strong.  We have had great success selling peaches, honey, potatoes and member’s produce this season and plans are already being made to participate next year.  The Farmer’s Market will be moved to Saturday , 8-12, next year and the location will be moved to Macon Avenue in front of the city library.  Please make plans to become involved next year—we need more volunteers.

The olive oil order is still in the works.  We talked to the lady in Denver placing the order and she is only 75 gallons short of the minimum 300 gallon order.  The Co-op has increased our order to 40 gallons.  We have most of that sold, but still have some gallons available for $20 if prepaid.  If you have ordered oil, please get your money in now—we have to prepay for our order in advance.  The oil should be available for delivery the end of this month.

Several members went in together and bought a local grass-fed steer last week.  It was killed, cured, cut and wrapped and then split up into ¼, 1/8, and 1/16th portions and everyone is happy with the price and the taste.  If any other members are interested in grass-fed beef, please let us know—we have had a few more inquiries for this but not quite enough to get a whole steer yet.

If anyone is a member of Costco or Sam’s and planning a trip to one of the stores, we would be greatly appreciative if you could pick up some supplies for members.  We have a list of items that members regularly purchase with prices that we can provide.  Let us know if you are interested in helping with this, we are always trying to save fossil fuel when doing our shopping.

We hope to see everyone at the next meeting!  And bring a friend—they are always welcome.

Canon Co-op has the opportunity to order great Greek olive oil–see below description.  If anyone is interested please let us know ASAP by responding to this email.  You must be a member of the Co-op to participate.  Orders need to be paid for by Sept. 14th.

Special order for one of the finest of OLIVE OILS only $20.00 a gallon.
The oil is imported Mediterranean extra-virgin, cold-pressed, first pressing olive oil with a very light almost sweet flavor from either Greece or Italy.
· Oil comes in a decorative metal tin with a closeable spout. (Pour into smaller container for everyday use, if desired.)  The metal tin helps the oil away from light so you have longer storage.
· The oil is packed six gallons per case, but you may order in any quantity you would like. The oil is in tins (rather than plastic) to keep out the light.
 · The recommended shelf life is 2 years. However, Alton Brown on the Food Network says that if the oil is away from light, heat and air, it should last indefinitely. A person opened her oil after over 8 years, and reported that it was in perfect condition.  It is best to be used within 12 months after opening.
