This has been a busy month for all of us—sorry we didn’t get a recap of last month’s meeting out to all of you.  It was a great meeting—Tammy Hartung had a great program on medicinal herbs and afterwards we had a very productive meeting and wonderful “picnic salad” potluck.  The Co-op is going to have a booth at the Canon City Farmer’s Market starting this Wednesday and every Wednesday after that until frost.  Any member interested in selling their wares, please let us know or come talk to us at the Market on Wednesday.  We are allowed to sell any produce, plants, flowers, herbs, and farm related crafts made by our members.  We are still looking for a tent-like cover for the booth and Corey is making us a sign, so we will be there on Wed. with Co-op info, a few things for sale and lots of enthusiasm.  Come see us!

The next meeting will be this Sunday, June 7th at 4 pm.  We will have the meeting at the home of Bart & Roxanne Schuster at 835 J Street in Penrose.  Roxanne is a raw chef and she will be doing a demo on her Kale/Coleslaw Salad.  We will have a signup sheet at the next meeting for people to man the booth at Farmer’s Market, so check your calendar and come join in.  The potluck for the June meeting will be “Clean Out Your Freezer.”  We all need to clean out our freezer for the next growing season and that should provide some interesting dishes.

We had some info from one of our members that we would like to share:

6:30 pm next Wednesday, June 3 come to “The Science Behind the Chocolate” presented by Dr. Dan and Esther Sollee which will include a TASTING of these decadently delicious products.  Ask the Sollees about the heatlh benefits of the right kind of chocolate.  Bring someone you care about with you.   Questions, info, and to reserve your seat and samples, call 429-1063.   The gathering is at

The Canon Co-op tree trimming workshop was a huge success!  Lynn gave all of us some great tips on trimming and Donia’s apple tree looks 100% better.  Don’t feel bad if you missed it, we plan to have more workshops in the future.

Some of us recently bought some grass-fed lamb through one of our members.  The meat was delivered and we are all having tasty and tender lamb chops.

We have been contacted by Rena’ Pryor of Bizzy Bee Honey Farms in Florence.  She is interested in our Co-op and would like to let us know that besides honey, she also makes old fashioned lye soap in 16 different scents and lip balm in 6 flavors.  She is also looking for someone that has goat’s milk so she can make soap with it.  She usually sells honey in case lots and if anyone if interested in sharing a case, please let us know.

The next meeting of Canon Co-op will be held this Saturday, May 9th at Desert Canyon Farm.  We will be attending the free workshop “Growing Medicinal Herbs & Their Uses” at 10 am and the meeting will be held after the workshop at 11 am.  If anyone is interested, the “Raptor Lady,” Devon will be there at 9 am with some of her birds of prey.  She rehabilitates birds of prey and will be giving a demonstration from 9 to about 10:30 on both Saturday and Sunday.  The potluck theme for the meeting is “Picnic Salads.”  Please be sure to bring your own place settings.  Everyone is welcome, hope to see you all there!
