The April meeting of the Canon Co-op was held at the home of Judy Van Acker on Sunday April 8. After touring Judy’s beautiful house, the meeting was called to order by new president, Helene Blake.
We discussed the Javernick’s CSA and are still working on getting more information on their Fruit Share availability. A new Membership Form was passed around and after discussion on modifications, it was approved. After modifications, it will be distributed to current members to fill out, so we can have current and consistent records. A committee was formed to research the feasibility of having a Canon Co-op booth at the Farmer’s Market for members to meet and share produce. Donia brought the basket of seeds and some potted chive plants for anyone wanting to take them home. Three members are taking advantage of the grass-fed lamb offered by a contact found by Cynthia. Kieran and Judy have taken on the research of various venues for bulk staples and also a better format for the website. Cory offered to create a logo for the Co-op. Vanessa has informed us that she intends to continue delivering the weekly produce bag during the summer with items that aren’t necessarily available from the CSA or in our home gardens. Members discussed the House Bill H875 (Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009) and were encouraged to call their congressmen to gain information and express their concern about the bill.
A flyer from Desert Canyon Farm was passed around with the list of free workshops being offered during April and May. It was decided to meet at the Farm for the May meeting (May 9th), attend the workshop offered (at 10 am—”Growing Medicinal Herbs & Their Uses”) and then have a picnic lunch meeting afterwards. The theme for the May meeting potluck will be “Picnic Salads” and please be sure to bring your own place settings.
Beki Javernick has also contacted us to let us know that she has some Salad Mix available. Please contact her for more information.
