A dozen people appeared with side dishes in hand for a potluck held at Lynn &  T’s house in Canon City. The business meeting was held first before we all dug into the freshly baked goods and hot steaming dishes. Donia reported that the by-laws are complete and ready for an attorney to review. Donia mentioned that the by-laws call for a seven member board. Kieran Hixon raised his hand and so now the co-op has seven members. The co-op’s bank account has a healthy start with 28 households signed up. Membership is $25 annually. Donia is working on getting a federal designation as a Cooperative Association through the I.R.S.

Winter Share Program

Donia explained that individuals may sign up via this web site (see Winter Share tab at top of page) for their weekly produce. Shares are $15 for a box of produce. Free range eggs and bread are sold separately.  Boxes typically feed two people. One must be a member of the co-op to be involved in the Winter Share Program.

A few co-op members also ordered a grass-fed steer from Steve Oswald who owns  Back Country Beef. The side of beef was divided amongst interested co-op members. Donia commented that the beef is very tasty.

Donia talked about  having a booth at the Farmer’s Market next summer. There was a brief discussion about having co-op members sharing their extra produce among co-op members, instead of coordinating the booth schedule. Communication is key to this happening.

The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 11th, 2009 at Donia’s house (322 N. Diamond, Canon City) @ 4:00.
